Overview

What is Import Export Code (IEC)?

Import Export Code (IEC) is a 10-digit code issued by the DGFT (Directorate General of Foreign Trade) that's mandatory for any business importing into or exporting out of India. Akshay B2B handles your IEC application, AD Code registration with shipping ports, and DGFT documentation — typically delivered in 1–3 working days. Once issued, IEC is valid for life with a small annual update.

How we get this done

A clear, predictable sequence — no chasing, no surprises.

Share PAN, Aadhaar, bank proof and address proof — typically over WhatsApp.

  2. 02

    DGFT application

We file the IEC application on the DGFT portal with Aadhaar e-sign or DSC.

  3. 03

    Verification & issue

IEC is generated digitally, usually within 1–3 working days.

  4. 04

    AD Code registration

  5. 05

    Annual update reminder

FAQ

Common questions

Quick answers to the things founders ask us most.

Is IEC mandatory for service exports?

Required for service exports availing benefits under foreign trade policy (SEIS, etc.) or routing payments through banks that ask for it. Many service-only freelancers operate without it, but having one is the safer route.

How long does IEC take?

1–3 working days once Aadhaar e-sign is completed and documents are in order.

Do I need to renew IEC?

No renewal — but an annual update on the DGFT portal between April and June is mandatory. Skipping it deactivates the IEC.

Can I export without an IEC?

No, except for specific exemptions like personal use, government departments and certain services.

What's the difference between IEC and AD Code?

IEC is the 10-digit business-level code; AD Code is your bank's 14-digit code registered at each port for export shipping. You need both for exports.

Is DSC needed for IEC?

Optional for proprietorship (Aadhaar e-sign works). Mandatory for companies and LLPs.
