How do I know if I need Basic, State or Central?

How long is the FSSAI licence valid?

1 to 5 years depending on the fee paid. Renewal must be filed at least 30 days before expiry.

Can I run a cloud kitchen with Basic registration?

Only if turnover is below ₹12 lakh. Most operating cloud kitchens fall under State licence.

What's the penalty for selling food without FSSAI?

Up to ₹5 lakh fine and 6 months imprisonment under section 63 of the FSS Act, plus seizure of stock.

Do I need a separate licence for each premises?

Yes — every distinct premises (warehouse, kitchen, outlet) needs its own licence.

Is the FSSAI number printed on my packaging?
